    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement was a very rewarding year, which I found very enjoyable. Following my assessment centre I was put into a role that the assessors thought I best suited and it was great. I had the opportunity to meet so many people in the business and learn so much about the Industry, and had a good laugh with my colleagues too!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. I never felt like 'just a placement student', I always felt part of the team and that my work and knowledge was relied upon by many.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager and the wider team were all very supportive. I always felt there was someone I could ask if I required help, and learnt invaluable skills and knowledge whilst there.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Once I had 'found my feet' and got to grips with my role, there was always jobs to be done. I never felt too under pressure but there certainly wasn't time to be bored!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once I got to grips with my role I felt very much part of the team with my own responsibilities. I handled stakeholder queries and attended meetings by myself and felt very much part of the business.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The 'soft skills' I have developed have been excellent in improving my confidence and motivating me to take up roles at university to support other students. The skills will also be invaluable in returning to work after my final year of university.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At first I felt in may be slightly 'boring' as the majority of colleagues were much older than me. However everyone was very welcoming and had time for a chat. I made some really good friends whilst at work and that made going to work a much better experience than it would've been if I had not.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My role was pr determined prior to starting and when I turned up there was plenty of background reading and things available for me, aswell as a calendar full of meetings to turn up to to start to get to grips with the role.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I completed an Institute of Risk management course which was paid for by the firm and was very informative, I also was allowed time out of work to attend professional seminars which were very useful in improving my knowledge. As a placement student I could not ask for any more investment

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were not many placement students at my office but we did have the opportunity to socialise with the Graduates which was really good! I also ha some evenings out with my colleagues and as I said made some great friends at work.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in Edinburgh and the cost f living was a lot higher than Yorkshire where I have lived previously, however that was to be expected. The socialising was brilliant, Edinburgh is a great city.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Really good, I found one of my favourite ever clubs in Edinburgh, and Glasgow wasn't r on the train if you wanted a different type of night out.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Ther were not that any opportunities, We did go Curling once which was fun, but there was no 5 a side football or anything similar that I was aware of, however I know other placement students at LBG did get involved in these sort of things at their offices
