    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Xeriox offered me a fantastic experience. I held a great deal of responsibity and felt i had a proper job role instead of a bogus role which was developed for a student. My job was very stressful at times but it enabled me to both learn a great deal and liaise with a number of people. Overall i enjoyed my year at Xerox and i have come away with a great experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my collegues. My job role entailed booking XGS revenue for commissions on a monthly basis and i felt that i always acumulated a number of best friends at a certain time of the month, when people wanted things from me. However, i have made some valued friends and i always recieved appreciation for all my hard work.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I recieved a great deal of support from my management team during my placement. I was trained by the previous student and then was left to my own devices to adapt to the role. Although i was left to learn and continue where the previous student had left off i always knew i had the support of my manager and he was always willing to offer me guidance when it was required and in the event of a disbute i would have mangements support.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My job role was quiet for half a month where i was able to complete tasks leisurely and then the other half was always manic with times it was not possible to stop to ensure that i adhered to tight deadlines. I felt it would have been great if we were able to spread the load across the month which would have made it a perfect balance however, this was not the nature of the job role.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a great deal of responsibility within my job role. However, with the responsibility i also had to take the flack for any mistakes and resolve them. Within my job role any mistakes would effect colleagues on a personal level within their pay. Once i had settle into the job i was pleased with the amount of reponsibilty i was given however, it was a worrya nd shock at the start when i had no previous experience.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I will be able to use all the skils i have learnt within my final year and beyond. I am currently looking into using the job area i have worken within for my disertation subject allowing me to apply my knowledge and to research into further background. I have become more confident when communicating which i feel is a vital tool which i will require within later life. I have a more rounded view of the business envirmonent and have been able to build on my future job prospects from my experience.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was generally always busy. I was lucky to sit with a number of people i was able to get on with however, everyone was very work orientated so i felt we had the perfect balance of banter and the ability to get our work done.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I felt there was a greater deal of organisation required. For instance i had been working for 9 weeks at the compnay before i recieved my compnay introduction workshop. Thus making the workshop a waste of time as we had already met the other students and understood the nature of the business. This traning is really required within the first two weeks in order to break the new IP's in.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Xerox offers a wide range of opportunities for employees to expand their personal development. It was then down to the employee whether they take advantage or not. I completed a number of online courses such as Microsoft packages and courses around ethics to expand on my university tranining. All employees complete the lean sig sigma yellow belt certification which is recognised within a number of companies.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to join Xerox for future employement if i was to find a job role within the correct geographical location. I know the doors are open for me if i so choose to take it and i would have the full support of my manager to help me secure a job role. I have applied to the Xerox graduate scheme and i can now wait and see what is to happen in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Xerox takes on 90 students a year of which 60 were based within my office. This helped the transition between university and working You still had a great support network and a great social scene after work. Generally all the students move into local halls to meet each other first before securing housing and it can seem to be the same as being at university.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living and socilising is quite expensive when you are not used to it. I am from Birmingham and was quite shocked at the prices within Uxbridge. I did find i struggled. I spent half of my placment living within Uxbridge and the other half commuting. I found that i struggled to cover all the costs however, it depends whether you enjoy the London lifestyle to whether you are happy to justify such increased costs.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlight within Uxbridge is good but can get boring after a while. However, Uxbridge is only 40 minutes from London where there a 101 opportunities for a great night out however at a premium.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a number of activities but mainly football based. Otherwise it is down to yourselves to get a group of you together to do things.
