    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The whole integration process was seamless and enjoyable. Everyone at HPCDS was so friendly and helpful. I was able to get involved in extra activities such as being a member of the social committee organising charity events for the office which was a lot of fun and rewarding. My time at HPCDS flew by, a definite sign of enjoyment!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like a valued member of the team rather than just a number which can get lost amongst other interns in larger organisations. My role has been continued for two further years after I left which gives a great sense of value for the work I did during my placement.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I met with the UK&I general manager on a bi-weekly basis and felt comfortable to ask for help and support when needed. My supervisor was in close proximity in the office and it was never any trouble to ask a question or set up a meeting. I implemented new processes into the organisation and these ideas were met with enthusiasm and 100% support.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • With all the activities I was involved with including team lead for the Voice of the Workforce communications work-stream, creation and distribution of the bi-monthly newsletter along with the social committee, there was always a conference call, meeting, or work to be getting on with.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As the first person in the role the responsibility was vast. As I said before at HPCDS you are an equal amongst the whole team, not just a number so the ownership of tasks was encouraged.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experience at HPCDS was invaluable. The training and experience I gained in SharePoint, presenting to senior management, conference calling, creating and implementing processes have led to successfully gaining a job in a field I wanted. Key skills I gained and developed during my year placement are main reasons I am now in a career which I love and for that I am extremely grateful to HPCDS for the opportunity,

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is relatively small and friendly, this really helps with others getting to know who you are and what you are about.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From interview, to the assessment centre, to my first day, the whole process was seamless from my point of view. I had all the equipment on my first day and was set up and ready to go,

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Online training programmes were available to use and I was able to complete those I wanted as and when I wanted to, 6 month appraisals and regular meetings enabled progress to be discussed.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Joint activities with the Hewlett-Packard interns are regular. Intern ball and the beginning and the end of your placement, charity events in the office, Christmas party etc.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted from home but from what I heard it was enough work hard and play hard.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Regular nights out with the other interns usually on a weekly basis. Reading is a town with bars, clubs, shopping, cinema, restaurants etc.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As part of a larger parent organisation there are always possibilities for opportunities if you want there to be. This placement will be what you want to make of it.
