The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement. The projects I worked on were really interesting and I was able to improve both my technical and soft skills over the year.
My colleagues didn't treat me any differently just because I was on a work placement. They respected and valued by input on discussions and always wanted me to share my opinion.
I was given great support and guidance by the management and the rest of the team. I had weekly catch-ups with my manager and was in constant communication with colleagues managing projects I was working on. The management always made sure that I was on track with my work and offered help when required.
I had a good balance of work. Depending on the project I was working on, I was incredibly busy but at other times I had relaxed days at work. I believe being "busy" depends on your own personal time management. I was able to manage my time efficiently so that I wasn't too busy every single day.
I has given plenty of responsibility. The projects I worked on were mainly managed and controlled by myself. It was up to me to make sure that relevant colleagues were in the loop and had their side of the project completed.
I learnt more during my placement than I have at university. Working in industry gave me an opportunity to apply my knowledge practically on real world projects. This experience cannot be gained with just studying for your degree. The skills I gained during my placement will help me complete my studies and have given me a solid foundation for a career.
The Company
People were busy with work which is understandable but there were plenty of jokes and conversation being thrown around. Cakes, chocolate and sweets were shared by all and team drinks were a fun occasion.
The placement was organised very well. No issues with communication of what to expect.
Lots of training was available. Training came in the form of formal training for new recruits, formal training for all employees and training set up by people within a team.

Internships and work placements are the primary method of recruiting new employees. By having a successful internship or placement can lead to a job offer.
The Culture
Work placement students organised many social events amongst themselves.
I was living in London so the cost of living and socialising is more than other parts of the country.
London has plenty of places for a good night out.
It depends on yourself. If you want to do things outside of work then you have the opportunities, if you don't want to do anything then don't.
