The Role
Despite the long hours - considering others were on holiday - the internship was an enjoyable way to spend the summer. The programme was structured in a way that provided us with a very holistic overview of the firm and with a very diverse ten weeks.
I was always given relevant tasks and my colleagues never failed to appreciate the contribution.
Both of my two managers (on two different rotations) spent incredible amount of time with me and were always willing to assist. Even after completion of my internship we have stayed in touch and they have called me personally.
There was never a dull spot. Given that it is not just your desk job to be done, but also a degree of meeting people from different divisions and forming a broader idea about the firm, you always have a huge variety of tasks to complete and boxes to tick.
I was myself surprised to see how relevant the projects I worked on were. In my first rotation I was given an AML project covering all the countries in which GS have an office, which I later presented to MD's and which was implemented shortly after my completion.
Work ethics and time management probably the most useful skills in studies. I have also practiced working with large amount of information and extracting but the relevant one under time pressure.
The Company
Very supportive, team focused, positive, motivated and enthusiastic. Everyone know the importance of their job.
The ten weeks were very diverse and full of experiences. Multiple networking sessions were organised for the interns to meet peers from different divisions as well as for the interns to meet employees. Senior speaker sessions also provided a great insight into what it is like to succeed in the firm. Community team work day was another great touch.
There is a plethora of available trainings. Furthermore, a network of buddies and mentors is created for your development.

I am excited to start my employment upon finishing university.
The Culture
Definitely yes. Given that the week is very busy, everyone is very eager to organise exciting things over the weekend.
London is definitely one of the most expensive places. Goldman offices are in the centre, hence, socialising in the area is also on the higher end. However, it is very easy to go more east or south and find budget-friendly places to retreat.
The shortcomings of the City nightlife are that you stay surrounded by the very same people you saw in the office, usually still in suits. It is very easy to get out of the area though.
I have personally played tennis several time. There were multiple activities organised and offered.
