The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, the responsibilities that were placed on me and the team that i worked with.
I felt valued by my immediate colleagues who i was working with on a day-to-day basis. However, in the main office i felt a bit like a stranger to the majority of the people there.
My immediate boss and line manager were absolutely superb from the start of the placement right until the day I finished. They were friendly, welcoming and always there to answer my queries.
At the beginning of the placement I was getting bored fairly often as they were unsure of my skill set. However after a month in the team began to trust me with more and more jobs which gave me enough time to learn the the tasks in hand as well as work shadow my manager.
To be honest there wasn't loads of responsibility placed on me but i was never expecting there to be. I was just a placement year student who was learning the trade. However as the project started to enter the critical path more responsibility was placed upon me due to the need to meet the deadline.
The Health and Safety training has been incredibly useful to me this year as I have a module based upon this and I am sure what I learnt will really help me in achieving a high mark. I now understand the industry more than I ever anticipated and the placement year really helped me grasp teamwork is essential for my project work.
The Company
I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere in my office during my placement year. All of the team worked well with each other and seemed to genuinely get a long with one another which I feel is crucial when it comes to teamwork. The team knew how to enjoy themselves at work whilst carrying out the task in hand and had a good balance between professionalism and friendship.
I felt the placement was fairly well organised. My line manger was always available and visited me regularly and was able to explain anything I didn't understand.
The company have invested a lot of their time and money in me and I really appreciate that. I was sent on several training days and have been offered a place on to the graduate scheme if I achieve the right grades which is a great opportunity for me.

If i achieve a 2:1 in my final year then they will accept me on to the graduate scheme.
The Culture
I wasn't introduced to any other placement students until our final presentation. It would have been useful and interesting to compare experiences with other placement students so their is an idea of how you are all getting on.
Didn't do much socialising in the area I worked. Was spending roughly £5 a day on lunch.
There were a few pubs local but we only went to one towards the end of the job.
There were a few activities outside of work such as charity work in order to achieve higher CCS scores for sites.
