The Role
As I've only been at the placement since June 2010 I don't really feel I can fully rate this yet but so far it's been a great experience.
You definitely get made to feel part of the team in this department right from day one. You are given important tasks to do, not just things that nobody else wants to do, and feel like you actually contibute something important to the team.
I've been given all the support and guidance that I need, they're always there to answer my questions and I'm not made to feel bad for asking questions, and they're often checking that I'm OK.
So far I've not been busy all of the time but now I am starting to get more settled I'm being given more responsibility and have more tasks to do, so I'm getting busier.
I have been given important tasks to do, such as contacting new suppliers, gaining information on their technologies and setting up a meeting with them. The tasks I have to do are important tasks and I'm trusted to be able to get on with them without my managers checking up on me all of the time.
I definitely feel already that I've gained a lot of skills that will help me in completing my degree and in my future employment, and I'm sure that I will continue to learn these as I go through my placement.
The Company
It's a good balance between a relaxed and formal atmosphere, there are often conversations going on but it's never too busy or loud to work. There are a mixture of students and associates in the office.
I didn't have any problems with RB, the only organisational problems came from the fact that I had no previous student to help me integrate into my role, however this was due to the student leaving earlier than normal.
If I need any help or training, there is always someone to help me.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
RB is definitely a company I'll be applying to when I graduate.
The Culture
The students get on really well, we often socialise together outside of work and also with students in other departments within RB. We have events organised with the associates and managers which most people attend too, which gives the opportunity to get to know your colleagues on a more informal basis.
Hull is a fairly cheap city to live in.
I really like the nightlife in Hull, however being from Hull I already know the places I like and don't really have anywhere else to compare it with!
There are a couple of sports teams but not really something to suit everyone.
