    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement year was useful and a good experience, however I don't feel valued or part of a real team. It was a good experience because it has showed me it's something which isn't for me.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There wasn't a real team feeling within work, there was a lack of bonding and friendship which is crucial in a office. I was the only one organising and committing to social events for the team. Although I asked for work and suggested to help them out there was never anything seriously planned for the long-term, I felt there wasn't enough planned from the start.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was able to question and ask advice when I needed, and there was a answer and help. However if I wasn't to ask there would be no support or guidance, even from previous graduates and employees.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the start there was a large amount of work when the industry was busy and I was keen to be involved in everything. However as my line manager became busy and the type of work became quiet by daily work was very slow. Most days I was lacking any big or small projects from either my line manager or colleagues, as well as any regular check ups and feedback.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There was little responsibility given to me as I was a placement and lacked any substantial technical understanding or training to be a serious and key player in the team.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Unfortunately the type of industry is different from my degree therefore it is not relevant as far as the technical part goes. However for the professional and organisational development it has been a benefit and advantage to complete a year in industry and I believe will help my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was quiet and dull at most times with little interaction and social talking among team members. Although this can be a good thing when dealing with your own personal work, I believe it wasn't helpful when motivating the team and having a good atmosphere.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a lack of management or organisation surrounding the placements compared to the graduates. Apart from the initial training we were left up to our own devices and decisions. I felt there could have been more motivation through the year and someone pushing you to do things.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company was efficient at dealing with training and providing adequate training courses. However I think there should be more choices and options throughout the year when training becomes available.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company is great for the those who enjoy the work and style, because it can offer you something different and fun. Although you will not become rich and you will have a stressful time working with the company as many current employees have told me.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • When I arrived there was nearly no social side outside work apart from birthdays and special events, however I quickly decided to plan several different events to bring the team together and relax outside work. By the end of my placement there were regular social events with various members.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living around me is fairly expensive although there is possibility to find cheap rent and living costs are as normal.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a nightlife and several pubs and clubs to visit, with different themes. Although what determines if the nightlife is good or not is always determined by the people around you not what the inside of a club is like, so make some interesting, fun friends you get along with and you'll have a good time.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was enough around to be involved and explore the surrounding area, and keep busy outside of work.

    3/5
