    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was somewhere different each week, meeting new people and experiencing different parts of the business. In sales you tend to touch a lot of areas of business other than your own. Great experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My role was a very independent one so at times you can feel forgotten about, you shouldn't though. 95% of the people I met were great to work with and very encouraging when you did get their time. Everyone had advice to give.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Again my role was very independent so I had to seek out the guidance rather than having a regular meeting about it. However, the support was there when asked for and I was encouraged to take time out of one day fortnightly to work on personal development.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For me the peaks and lows were a good balance. Being incredibly busy one week and a bit more relaxed the next worked well. Also when I was needed to work late or into a weekend I was rewarded with time off later.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I don't believe there is another internship running in the UK that will give you this much responsibility. I was expected too meet client on my own at times, manage relationships, sell Verizon's services with very little support. Not straight away of course!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The effect on my ability to work independently in an massive corporation will put me in a great position when applying for grad jobs. The business acumen I've gained should help me in my final year as study Economics and Business. Countless skills on top of this that I don't think this text box has enough space for. Think management, negotiation, analytical skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The London office could sometimes feel a bid like a morgue, this started to improve as I was leaving. There were opportunities to go out after work. The Reading based interns went out together as well and I had lunch with them whenever I was there. I was based in Oxford and London throughout my placement so I'm not best placed to comment of the Reading office, it seemed fine.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The independent nature of the role makes it hard to answer this. My role did progress logically as I became more skilled and asked for more work.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Loads of training available on the Verizon intranet from excel master-classes to sales 101s. Loads of opportunities to go to desk based training as well at least one every 2 months. This was for the entire sales organisation too, not just the interns so it was good real world training.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If a decent graduate programme was presented to me I would be interested. At this stage there isn't one as far as I know.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I made friends with the other interns but didn't spend enough time in Reading to answer this question properly. They all went out together and Reading has a huge intern base with a Facebook group for getting people together for nights out etc.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lived in my university town, can't comment

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I worked in London most of the time so it was brilliant. In Reading though I can't comment.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I took part in a half marathon and a triathlon with one of our clients and senior leadership team through the relationships we fostered with them. Went out with my team in London plenty of times. Great memories.
