    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the work that I was given. It allowed me to see the different aspects of the role and show how a maths degree can be applied in the world of work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There were many occasions where team members mentioned that they had forgotten that I was just a placement student and would only be there for a year. I had great feedback including someone saying 'what are we going to do without you? You're a star! '

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line managers we brilliant! I knew I could talk to them if I had any issues and if there was anything I wanted to do, such as shadowing other teams within the organisation, I was encouraged to do it and get involved.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Overall I was busy enough that I always had something to do but not so busy that I was getting stressed out about it.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a bit of responsibility in the work I was doing. For example, I was given the responsibility of researching a method and applying it. This was then quality assured by someone else but I was given most of the responsibility for it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The division in which I was working has given me greater knowledge of surveys and how they work. This will aid me in some of my modules for the final year of my degree. Also the experiences that I have gained have helped me gain more evidence to back my competencies which will help me in future job applications.

    5/5

  • Not so noisy that it was distracting but didn't feel like you couldn't speak.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I didn't know what work I'd be involved in from the start but this gave me a chance to read up on the theory behind the work that I was going to be doing.
