    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I felt I learnt a lot from my work placement, however at times there wasn't a lot for me to do.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They made me feel really welcome and always thanked me for my work on jobs.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During the first part of my placement my boss was extremely supportive, having regular meetings and up-dates with me. Towards the end of the year, he was busier with other projects and as I had been there a while and was used to the day-to-day routine we met less frequently.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied throughout the year. At certain points I was extremely busy, working through my dinner hour and staying over at the end of the day, at other points I was struggling to find things to do and so started working on my own portfolio of work.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On some briefs, it was left completely up to me to come up with designs and ideas, other times I was only responsible for completing amends to other designers work.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the experience I gained this year could not have been replicated in a university setting and will be invaluable to me and my future in the design world.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I started during a hard patch as the recession had hit small businesses and the company had just had to make half the team redundant. However the staff were very kind to me and made me feel very welcome and part of the team straight away. As I left, the manager was also having to make cut-backs as the government had cut money to 3rd sector organisations which were the main client base for the agency.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I knew what I had to do on a daily basis, and knew where to go for help.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They spent time teaching me how to use various pieces of software, and lent me tools and CDs to help improve my programming skills.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • At one point I was offered a part-time job (in passing) during my final year at university, but as my placement came to an end, money was tight.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There weren't any other placement students in the organisation.

    0/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I stayed at home and commuted.

    0/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't go out whilst on placement there as I lived at home but I know from previous experience of being at university in the area that it offers a decent nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • No, but I did get to go to Birmingham and elsewhere filming with the other designers.
