    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working in a small team made any small problems much bigger than necessary. General lack of structure and feedback led to occasions when I thought I was doing what was expected and then got told after several months this wasn't the case!

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Although the job was advertised as business development intern making suggestions generally got responses ranging from total apathy through to annoyance and resentment.

    1/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Almost no training or guidance provided either at the offset or throughout the year. Asking for feedback on my performance for my course also got almost no response

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The job varied from being ridiculously busy during busy months and then having absolutely nothing to do for several months. Work load and projects could have been better planned to not clash with busy periods and other projects could have made use of spare time.

    1/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At times I was the only person in the office for several days running so there was responsibility in that sense, however on the other hand I expected to be working on strategic projects and process development, not answering phones and emails!

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed diplomacy/people skills and work load management but I think these would be involved in literally any placement.

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • During the summer when there was a larger team it was definitely a great atmosphere but this was carried mainly by the other interns. The rest of the year when we had a skeleton team the office was pretty dull!

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Training was basically non existent, responsibilites were never clear. They seemed to not really know what they wanted me to be doing so sometimes they were gushing praise for things I'd taken over doing because no one else seemed to be doing it, and other times they'd ask why I hadn't been managing a task when I was never aware it was my responsibility.

    1/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Almost no training given and when asked for developmental feedback none was given and the questions were always turned around to ask me how I was finding the placement rather than giving useful feedback.

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • While the offer might arise I didn't enjoy the local culture or the company management style so would definitely not accept

    0/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had a few drinks together after work but only on rare occasions. Within the office during the summer everyone got on well and we had lunches together but that was it. he rest of the year there was no one else around to socialise with other than managers!

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty average. Accommodation is quite expensive in the whole of France. Eating or drinking out is pretty average. Supermarket bought alcohol is cheaper than UK

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not much in Lille itself but good travel connections to Brussels, Paris, London and potentially Amsterdam

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Nothing provided by the company and not much that I found going on externally. Dance or fitness classes I tried to join were very very expensive compared to the UK
