About You
The Spring Week at Goldman is a great way to figure out if both the industry and Goldman's culture correspond to your personality and ambitions. Unlike other Spring Programmes at other banks, the Spring Week at the Securities Division at GS is like a real internship. You get to do desk rotations, a stock pitch, a group project, and have the opportunity to talk to many people at the firm, including partners. Many "lectures" are also scheduled throughout the programme to introduce the different desks.
Overall, Goldman Sachs takes this programme very seriously (as it is a way to recruit people for the summer internship), and the great majority of GS employees will be keen to dedicate some of their time to explain you their work and answer to any question you may have.
As you get access to the firm's ressources during the whole duration of the Programme, this is fairly easy to find information on your own. However, GS employees, when available (there are certain hours when it is better not to solicit people who work on the trading floors) are genuinely glad to answer to your questions and help you with your projects. Last but certainly not least, the HR team is always available as well and very helpful. They provide feedback if you ask them and are always there to reassure you ! ;-)
Since I do not study finance, the skills I developed are not relevant to my studies. However, I am now convinced that I want to work in this industry and, thus, I know that I will have, at some point, the opportunity to use the skills I have acquired at GS.
The Company
There was a good balance of compulsory events and free time, which is very important at the Securities Division. Indeed, this offers a great opportunity to navigate around the trading floor and meet as many people as possible.
Since we were told from the very beginning that, in theory, all Spring Interns could receive an offer for the Summer Internship (there is many more interns in the summer than in the spring), there was no cut-throat competition among interns. On the contrary, team-work was massive ! What was really appreciable is that no one was left aside, and we all got along pretty well.
The Spring Programme being a way to recruit future Summer Interns or full-time employees, the firm invested a lot on our training.
Everything Else
A whole networking evening was dedicated to that.
