    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • A wonderful introduction to life within a Bulge Bracket bank. Employees were honest and approachable, but it was up to you to make best use of the opportunities afforded.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Employees of the bank from all divisions and tiers were very much open to approach. HR were extremely kind, and often went out of their way to help you. A dinner in the city on the penultimate day was a highlight - it was wonderful to see senior bankers engaging with interns over an unforgettable dinner.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were given an introduction from all parts of the bank, and employees always stayed around afterwards should one have any questions. Certain case studies appeared a little rushed, though this was understandable given the time pressures of the day. If one wanted to learn more about a certain topic, or speak further with an individual, there were multiple networking sessions throughout the week.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As previously mentioned, this was an excellent introduction to life within the Investment Banking industry. Games and case studies allowed one to develop skills throughout the week, vital for a presentation to senior bankers on the penultimate day. There was a strong emphasis on networking, and plenty of opportunities to develop soft skills vital for success in the modern world.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Everything was clearly laid out on a timetable given to us on the first day (though the timetable could have been larger in size!). All interns knew where they should be, when. Occasionally presentations overran, though a shorter break meant a longer contact time with employees.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Brilliant atmosphere. Interns were attentive, driven and personable, and were actively approached by Bank of America Merrill Lynch employees. Everyone was impressed by the scale of the work within the firm. Buildings in St Paul's and Canary Wharf presented a very strong image of the bank.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Many networking opportunities, multiple case studies and numerous games and activities. These culminated in a group presentation allowing each intern to demonstrate the skills they had learned throughout the week.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It is important to note that interns in the IBK division were not given work shadowing, but rather a case study and discussion panel, each accompanied by bankers. Interns in other divisions, however, were offered two-on-one and one-on-one work shadowing. Additionally, bankers from all divisions were often present, and were more than happy to tell interns about their work within the bank, amongst other things.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We had presentations from CSR and from members of the main networks within Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Employees would tell you about their experience within the firm, and I left with the impression of an ambitious and collaborative culture.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Confirmed my desire to work within IBK. I met other interns who changed their first-choice role having attended the insight, so we were given a very strong indication of what work in each division entailed.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Travel expenses were paid for.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Many, many opportunities to network. Networking at breakfast on one day, lunch on another, dinner on another. Employees were open to approach, and it was important you did so.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Wonderful opportunities. It was a pleasure to network with fellow interns as well as bank employees, and I hope to have made many contacts that I can retain for the future.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were given a talk from CSR and one on employee networks, and were shown facilities (therapist, gym) within the buildings.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • An unforgettable experience for all the right reasons. I would not hesitate to recommend this programme.
