About You
Such a great opportunity and it was two weeks I definitely enjoyed! Really didn't want the program to end as I loved being at the firm so much.
The firm really makes you feel special and valued. They repeatedly stress how hard the program was to get on and how the selection of each intern was very carefully thought out. From the individual interview for the program (mine was with an MD) to the buddy system and one-on-one time you get with several bankers, the firm truly makes you feel like they want you to be there.
So many people you can ask for help! They keep encouraging you to ask any and all questions you had so it felt like a very open and safe environment. We could always ask HCM, our buddies, fellow interns, or even e-mail people that you've met and networked with. Everyone is so willing to answer questions and help you out.
Not much was very relevant to my degree subject, but the program has taught me so much about what investment banking is and the structure of the division and the firm. This really helped me to make an informed decision about whether investment banking is a career I want to end up pursuing.
The Company
Very very well structured. the HCM team were so organized and efficient, and our days flew by smoothly despite being jam packed with presentations/case studies/other activities.
It was amazing. All the other interns were so friendly and willing to learn, and the employees at GS were all so down to earth and seemed excited at having us there too.
Had two full days of technical training with an external vendor who trains on the full time analyst program. Very useful. Also had some sessions on soft skill development.
Loads of opportunities to talk with people from analyst level all the way up to partner. However we couldn't do proper M&A deals (obviously) as it's very private information.
Several talks on GS culture and the question was asked a lot of times when MD's or Partners came to talk to us. There was also a real sense of "culture" just by walking around the office.
So helpful! I think that this is definitely something I want to do after learning more about it. There was also some opportunity to learn about other divisions within the firm too, and opportunities to interview and apply for other divisions.
Everything Else
Was paid way more than enough for food and new clothes for the entire two weeks. People from abroad also had a hotel room for the whole two weeks, and were reimbursed travel expenses.
Almost every day there was a networking event with people from different divisions or groups within IBD.
Lots of opportunities to network and we were let off around 6:30pm so if you really wanted you could also socialize with fellow interns.
People were very open about what they did for fun. Apart from this we had presentations on GS Corporate Engagement, and the Affinity Networks.
Would definitely recommend this insight. So worth while and fulfilling, and a brilliant opportunity to get fast tracked onto the summer analyst program.
