The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable with constant interesting and client facing work in M&A across many countries and sectors
Integrated into the teams I was working with with lots of senior exposure
During the internship had 4 people responsible for me who were there to give me support and guidance: a 'Buddy' (first year analyst who was there to help you learn the ropes); a Staffer who allocated you work and made sure you had enough work and not far too much work and that you were working on projects with teams you were interested in; a Development Officer (VP level) who was primarily there to support you day to day and your main point of call from a welfare perspective; a Mentor (Director level) who gave you a Senior perspective.
Due to the nature of M&A you are always busy and sometimes a bit too busy but your staffer is there to make sure are never too busy or don't have enough work
Obviously as an intern your work is given to you by someone more experienced than you but you were allowed to take ownership of the work you were doing and work out yourself how to do it!
All the financial analysis skills I learnt will help me with any future career in finance. The I.T. skills haves generally improved my efficiency on computers. And then networking skills come in use every day!
The Company
Everyone is very relaxed, goes out for drinks a lot and you very quickly make 'work buddies'
Very well organised by HR and the bank. Very well organised training week and all it was always very clear what was happening
Has a week of training at the beginning of the internship, several speaker series events by senior members of the bank and outside speakers. Large ongoing training programme throughout your career there.
