    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at George, it is the perfect environment for someone looking to gain more industry experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • George made me feel a real part of the team and I felt that my input was listened to.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a great relationship with my Line Manager and felt I could ask her anything at any time. She was always very interested in my progress and always fully explained things to me when I didn't understand something.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was rather busy and often didn't take lunch but that was more my choice, rather than feeling like I couldn't. I stayed late a few times but generally left the office by 5.45pm every night. Most of my other friends at other companies worked much longer hours.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel I was given the perfect amount of responsibility, my Manager put a great sense of trust in me which helped me progress but on the other hand, I didn't feel like the responsibility was too much pressure and I could always get help when I needed it.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed at George will be carried with me through my future career.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Exciting and fast moving!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were floors in the process to begin with, but the HR team dealing with Placements going forward are much more organised and as I left the company I could see that improvements had been made.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • George are fantastic for developing peoples skills, my Manager sent me on many courses.

  • Subsidised/Company Gym

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • George offered me an open contract for when I complete my degree. They also offered a lot of the other placement students jobs too.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I lived with 3 other placement students, who are now really good friends and we have all stayed in touch and see each other regularly.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in the Lutterworth area on my placement year which had a severe lack of things to do, but it was literally 5 mins drive to work and the rent was cheap! Me and my housemates often went home at weekends.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area in which we lived literally had no nightlife, but Leicester was about 25mins drive,which cost about £40 there and back in a taxi.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Other than the Christmas party there were no social events but George do get involved in local events at the weekends so the Colleague Voice team encourage colleagues to get involved.
