    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • As placements go, it was really enjoyable not only because of the challenge and variety of the work, but the open friendliness of everyone at the firm. The evening socials were also particular inventive and entertaining!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • My supervisors seemed genuinely interested in helping me learn and develop, even though I was only with them for a week at a time. I felt fully involved, was given interesting work and my contributions seemed well-appreciated.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The support from my supervisors and other associates in the firm was exceptional. No matter what the task or problem, they were ever-ready to help and guide me to a solution, rather than simply telling me the answer or leaving me to struggle along on my own. Our graduate recruitment officer was especially concerned about our progress, full of tips and advice on how we can make the most of the experience and always a first port of call if we needed anything at all.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think any time spent at a firm develops your ability to work in an office environment and as part of a team. Personally, I benefitted most from being given multiple tasks and assesments, which developed my ability to plan and structure my day. The presentations from the practice area teams were amongst the most useful and interesting that I have experienced, and I learnt a great deal about Private Equity in particular.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was pretty much impeccable. Our schedules were very clear and well-organised, and we were always fully occupied. There was not a moment of 'dead time' and the variety of events was very much appreciated.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I think we were challenged a significant amount, so it was by no means a jolly stroll through the park. However, the atmosphere was really positive throughout and all the vacation schemers appeared happy and enthusiastic throughout. No doubt this was achieved by the tremendous energy and excitement of our graduate recruitment officer, who did a wonderful job in keeping us in a bright and optimistic mood.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Considering we were only here for two weeks with a bank holiday in between, I was amazed at how much interest people took in our learning and development. There is the sense that the training here is outstanding.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • There was a real openness and honesty about the place, so you felt that what you saw would be exactly what you'd get. People seemed to be working hard, but always in a calm manner with a smile on their face.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Through a combination of presentations and a general experience of the aura of the firm, I think everyone came away knowing exactly what the firm stood for and the values shared by its employees.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Really valuable. It confirmed a lot of thoughts that I'd had initially, but I experienced so much more besides, in practical terms, that I developed a real sense that the work and the environment would suit me very well indeed.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Especially generous remuneration.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, the 'open-door' policy at the firm meant we were able to go and speak to anyone we wanted - provided they weren't in the middle of a client call! We also meant a considerable number of employees through the social events and the presentations and assessments that took place during the day.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Really creative and fun. One week was cocktail making; the second chocolate making. Everyone really enjoyed it, as there was a focus to the evenings and people were able to relax and enjoy the experience, whilst getting to know trainees/employees much better.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There is clearly a very big charity drive at the firm, with many people taking part in sponsored athletic events, fund-raising events and even offering support to children in local schools.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. If you are prepared to work hard and have a genuine interest in commercial law, you will thoroughly enjoy this placement.
