About You
Good fun but hard work at the same time.
All really nice people.
Plenty of guidance, but we were also allowed to get on with things by ourselves, which was valuable.
Very useful for future careers. Less useful for degree studies - but that was not the point of doing the placement.
The Company
Well structured, but bank holidays reduced the total time. There was also some tension between assessed exercises and general work in our seats. The priority of the former made it more difficult to get settled in the different departments.
Very good. Enough socials that the experience didn't feel like a constant test, but enough assessments that it felt worthwhile. Enjoyably hard work, but people didn't seem to be taking it more seriously than was necessary.
I got the impression that a lot of hard work and resources went into it. It was also designed to be flexible enough to accommodate different sorts of people.
I felt that it was about as close as I could get to understanding what a full-time role would be like. But it also made me realise that it's very difficult to understand fully what working for a company is like without actually doing it.
As above, although culture is perhaps something more apparent than the realities of a full-time role.
Very useful. It has made it clear to me that visiting law firms for several weeks is the best way of deciding between them. In this sense it has given me a clear, albeit longer, path towards deciding on a career. It has also encouraged me to reevaluate other possible careers that I have been considering.
Everything Else
More than adequate for my purposes (commuting, not living in London). In fact, it was positively generous compared to other firms.
Plenty of opportunities to meet people at all levels, from trainees to partners.
Social events were well spread out and enjoyable. I felt as if the firm had made a real effort. The events did not, however, detract from the serious purpose of the placement.
Several opportunities to do so.
Definitely.
