The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Got an amazing amount from the experience (knowledge and understanding). I am currently applying these experiences to help me with some aspects of my Civil Engineering Course at University. Made new friends and contacts in the industry.
Felt as if I was a full time employee, was constantly kept in the loop with emails, meetings, conversations. Liked the idea of how I was switched around the departments so I could see the framework as a whole. Was happy to be providing a valued service especially in the Planning/Programming department where I spent the majority of my time. Had lots of feedback from colleagues as well as companies who they were in partnership/contact with.
Eveyone was really nice and very supportive/helpful, and explained and went into detail about questions I had or if I didnt fully understand a task that I was required to do.
I always had something to do even though there were days with less work. On the other hand there were days where I was really busy. I found it a great balance as well as a variety of tasks overall though.
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibilty but depended on the task. I was reliable and efficient so I felt trusted. I also understand that certain tasks require several reviews so when my work was checked I knew it was not because they did not think I could cope, but so it was agreed upon mutually.
I took a great deal from the experience for example I have a certificate to be provided as evidence for CPD (Contiuing Professional Development), and I also obtained a EUSR (SHEA Water) card that is valid for 3 years. Other knowledge I picked up and understanding, will be and has been very useful, and will be for the rest of my life.
The Company
The working environment was very professional with light hearted moments, there was a good balance, and I can see why Morgan Sindall are so good at what they do. The environment was suited to the work being carried out hence why everybody works efficiently.
The placement was well organised, everyone new what department I was in and when, due to there being a schedule emailed out. I also was given a schedule so I was aware of what I was doing each day. Obviously there were issues such as when a person was ill that I was supposed to be with, but other than that it was perfect.
I was put on a training course to obtain a EUSR (SHEA Water) card and passed, so my card is valid for the next 3 years.
National Travel
Will hopefully obtain a year in industry placement 2013-2014, and perhaps get sponsored at University in my final year, then possibly the aspect of a job after graduation.
The Culture
Got on well with everybody and got invited to birthday celebrations etc.
