    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Was given loads of responsibility and felt like a real pivotal element of the business. Social life was better than most that i've heard off and working within a large organisation like Xerox was a great experience

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was treated like a permanent employee always and was never spoken to like a student. I could give numerous examples of when i was approached to explain tasks.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • manager left after 6 months and wasn't replaced. Not a negative though as was essentially placed in charge of the day to day running of a sales team. However, prior to this he gave me great guidance and support and taught me several key skills.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • always busy with things to do. Got involved in lots of other tasks to keep my workload varied. There are so many opportunities to get involved in new tasks and mentioning what your interested in always led to me picking up work that could help me experience it

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • couldn't have expected the level of responsibility i was given. I was a pivotal cog in the functioning of a sales team with a net revenue in excess of €1million and for the second half of the placement essentially managed them due to my managers departure. Got involved in several projects for directors as well and was given sole responsibility for them

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • knowledge of excel and access has improved greatly which will benefit me in the future. I developed a strong sense of managerial skills and overall i feel the placement rounded me as an individual

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • my particular office was very multi cultural and the set up was quite erratic in that there were no real plans to positioning. This meant that a lot of the people sitting around me only stayed around for a few weeks at a time. As well as this everyone wasnt overly chatty. However i would say that other students i knew found the opposite

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well done. Assessment centers were well run and everything about the transition into the company was enjoyable

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Xerox have a online training programme that is available but its not overly encouraged. Aside from that i did engage in a lean six sigma training course.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would return to Xerox if the right role was available. As yet there is no set graduate scheme in place so im not sure how likely it is. However, i am aware of a a fair few employees who used to be placement students

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • from what i have gathered from friends it is more or less unrivaled. There are so many students taken on and there is a great social scene. Everyone would always go on nights out and occasionally a thursday night out which made work on a friday interesting. There is also a social football side which is set up each year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As you would expect it was quite high seeing as it is in the london area. Still cheaper than living in more central areas.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Uxbridge itself was poor but london and watford were both in close proximity so it worked out that there were plenty of good options

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • On a social level yes.

    4/5
