    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was not given much to do at the start of my placement and throughout the course of my ten weeks did very little hard engineering.

  • I felt valued by my colleagues but not to a large extent.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was able to speak to the team and ask as many questions as I could think.

  • Often I was bored as I was given little to do and there were very few jobs.

  • I was given responsibility over a range of tasks and people.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed skills during my placement and learnt a lot about the job, this information will certainly help me in later life. If the placement had been slightly more challenging and busy however I think I would have gained a lot more.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly atmosphere with nice people to help me out when necessary.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement seemed rushed and for the first month I had very little to do. This however was not all down to the company because a lot of jobs had to close for the Olympics. However I did feel the organisation of my placement was a bit last minute.

  • The company have a clear structure of developing their graduates in to chartered engineers and I was very pleased with this aspect.

  • I have a job with the company which is great.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were not any other placement engineers on site so this does not apply.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The placement was in a very expensive.

  • There was no night life in the area.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities to get involved with as many activities as you could fit in outside of work but these activities were down to you to arrange.
