    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a demanding 8-week long placement, requiring you to work more than 9-5. However, I acquired a lot of important skills in long-term view.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • We had lab-group outings, a lab-day, sports in the labs, etc...

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Anytime I needed an advice, there was somebody to help me. Anytime something went wrong, there was somebody to repair the broken stuff after me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Reasonably busy, but had time for lunch/coffee anytime I wanted.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The main task was given to me by my supervisor, but I had the opportunity to use the lab equipment and run my own designed experiments.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Perfect skill development, all very closely related to potential DPhil in Biochemistry/related subject.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We had loads of fun, especially with dry ice in the tubes and sports after labs.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall structure was well-prepared, but some of the details and timetable weren't planned with much precision.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All of the skills greatly helped me, all the lab techniques I learnt, all the papers I read.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I could if I wanted to take it.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good atmosphere with all the lab-mates, helpful and kind to each other.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Oxford is quite expensive in general.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • During the summer holidays, it was not that great as during the term time.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Some sport activities, pub crawls, etc...
