    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved the placement. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I was given a great deal of responsibility, and feedback after my work. The office atmosphere was laid back yet productive.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was friendly towards me and made an effort to get to know me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor helped me out whenever I needed her, and always came over to chat to me and make sure I knew what I was doing. She also gave me feedback after tasks that I did.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had jobs to do but was never overloaded with work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allowed to go out on jobs by myself, interview members of the public and write up articles, all of which were published.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt several skills when working, due to the amount of responsibility I was given. The advice I received will also help me further my career.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed but everyone also worked hard. There was no pressure from the management which was great.

  • Very well set up - received information from my supervisor before I arrived which was very useful and informative.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of time in me, giving me advice and feedback on my writing.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'm not sure how much money I would earn there - being a local rather than national paper, but the job was enjoyable and I would be happy there.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • They were friendly with each other but didn't seem to meet up outside of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was in Coventry, so was pretty cheap.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's okay for clubs but not the most idyllic location for a casual drink.

  • There were none offered to me whilst I was there but I didn't expect there to be.
