The Role
I loved the placement. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I was given a great deal of responsibility, and feedback after my work. The office atmosphere was laid back yet productive.
Everyone was friendly towards me and made an effort to get to know me.
My supervisor helped me out whenever I needed her, and always came over to chat to me and make sure I knew what I was doing. She also gave me feedback after tasks that I did.
I always had jobs to do but was never overloaded with work.
I was allowed to go out on jobs by myself, interview members of the public and write up articles, all of which were published.
I learnt several skills when working, due to the amount of responsibility I was given. The advice I received will also help me further my career.
The Company
Very relaxed but everyone also worked hard. There was no pressure from the management which was great.
Very well set up - received information from my supervisor before I arrived which was very useful and informative.
They invested a lot of time in me, giving me advice and feedback on my writing.
I'm not sure how much money I would earn there - being a local rather than national paper, but the job was enjoyable and I would be happy there.
The Culture
They were friendly with each other but didn't seem to meet up outside of work.
It was in Coventry, so was pretty cheap.
It's okay for clubs but not the most idyllic location for a casual drink.
There were none offered to me whilst I was there but I didn't expect there to be.
