    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic group of people with fantastic attitudes to work through good times and bad.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an extra member of the team I was able to complete extra projects for the department. As people left the team I was also required to help fill in the gap.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If I needed help there were always people to ask, however I didn't have a formal meeting with a manager to discuss my placement.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some moments of very little work with some moments of a lot of work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was tasked with running important projects but I didn't have to make the final decisions.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot of soft skills that will be very useful. Also learnt a lot of what not to do!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Never dull! Hard work interspersed with plenty of fun to lighten the mood during the unhappy times.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Xerox have an excellent placement scheme, however the R&D side lacked support during my year, with the placement no longer existing in 2012/13.

    1/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was training at the start of the placement, but nothing after November. If I ever needed to know anything informal training would take place.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Plenty of socials with my department, including some after I had left. Also socialised with the other students and graduates that returned.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent in Hatfield was fairly cheap. Near London so expect according prices.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Some pubs in Welwyn. Tended to get the train to London for a night out.
