    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This internship in no way reflected the job description, if you want to work in a call centre for £3 an hour then this is the job for you

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most staff were made to feel replaceable by the egotistical boss who would constantly shout and swear at employees. This behaviour was reflected by other members of staff who thought they could speak to the juniors in the same way.

  • Training was given to work in the call centre as high pressure was placed on sales

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were manic, especially when targets were due at the end of the month, other days there was little to do and a day involved calling people from the database who had no interest in actually taking out a loan with the company

  • This varied dependant on what needed doing and how the manager was feeling

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main thing I learnt was that I will never work for a company like this one again

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was often tense and miserable, although many employees were friendly. No one was allowed to take breaks or lunch together apart from management

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • When the placement was advertised the job was for a placement in Oxford, they failed to say that they were moving the whole business to London and allowed no extra money for the raised living/commuting costs.

  • borro is only interested in improving itself, the attitude is that employees can be replaced.

  • I would never return to this company, I would rather be unemployed

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Employees low down in the company stayed together and went out sometimes. There was also a football team to get involved with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was very expensive as the new office was in Central London

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As before it was expensive in London and the placement pays £8k per year, fine for Oxford but doesn't go far in London

  • Some employees go for drinks after work and there was a football team which played after work
