The Role
Overall the placement was very good. Would have been excellent if a bit more industrial visits or offshore work, though.
Was treated essentially like another member of the team. Certainly no-one tried to fob me off or anything just because I was only a summer student.
Supervisors were very helpful when I required them.
Quite busy at times and at other times not very busy at all, but plenty of time to research other stuff that I'm interested in that helped me learn more about the industry, and to ask questions too.
Given a fairly important piece of work to do, but maybe could have been given slightly more responsibility overall.
Definitely learned a lot about the area I was in.
The Company
Good banter nearly all the time.
I don't think the team were told until that I was arriving until quite soon before. I never had my own desk or telephone line; however that was only a very minor annoyance and I never had to take a desk at the other side of the building as there was always enough free desks with the team due to people being on holiday etc.
I was sent on a two day training course and was given plenty of support when required. I was asked to do presentations on a few occasions at weekly team meetings; could have perhaps been asked to do more so I got more used to doing them.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Would definitely take a job if offered.
The Culture
People were friendly, but there wasn't much of a social scene between us placement students as we were all in different teams and different buildings too. I hear there is a good social scene amongst the graduates though!
Aberdeen is quite an expensive city, but I already live here so it doesn't affect me much.
Some people really like the nightlife, others don't.
Yes, there was the corporate decathlon, Friday fitness sessions and other things too.
