The Role
I was given mainly data entry tasks and normally ran out of tasks to do. As an intern i was also given other tasks to do from another department which i found enjoyable.
Majority of the staff was on holiday or business meetings abroad, which left me with lack of guidance. However, work was arranged for me when I phoned to say i was out of work. Most of the staff are busy in my department, so i had to use my initiative most of the time.
My line manager was mostly busy doing tasks, however i was able to ask for more tasks and they are happy to answer any questions i had.
There wasn't many tasks given to me, though i was able to do more research about the company in my first week and talk to other staff in my division, who were happy to answer any questions.
I was given more responsibility during tasks with the other interns and i was restricted in many of the tasks within the division as i wasn't qualified or the information was above a security level.
The working environment has definitely improved my adaptability skills and the lack of tasks has given me more confidence to go out and find other tasks or to absorb more information about the company. For future finance interns and schemes this intern would be great in providing me with relevant industry experience.
The Company
Was able to sense the working environment of other divisions which our team supports. However, the office became much quieter during the `holiday period`. I was told that my intern was during the less busy quarters in contrast with more busier times!
I was given tasks when they were needed, so i wasn't given a structured task list. I was invited to an introduction session and was able to meet people from other divisions too. My other tasks given from another division was organised well.
I was given tasks and i was able to make use of an online learning system about the industry, markets and financial products.

It was a great learning experience.
The Culture
I was able to communicate with my fellow workers well and the social scene is...lunch? They are very nice people just very busy. Me and the other interns went out mainly to eat and to attend other networking events.
Well it's in London...so i'm pretty used to seeing these prices. A staff or student discount would always be helpful and there are some little gems such as restaurants and stores which are great value for money. If you're new to London its best to do a little research and read reviews. You'll save more!
If you like the nightlife it's great here! though it depends on which area you are in and areas you commute through, that makes it a better experience and ensures your safety.
There were a few opportunities sent into my inbox which all other employees also receive, though i should have made the most of them to expand my knowledge and contacts.
