Overview
Participating in panel discussions of each practice area, giving the opportunity for questions on any deals and personal experiences of the area. Networking lunches to get to know your cohort and the opportunity to receive a trainee buddy as a contact point with the firm.
Skills
I have developed my networking skills and my commercial awareness especially. This is due to the excellent exposure to new people and thorough guide given on how to analyse commercial patterns in new stories and apply it to A&O Shearman's work.
Business Insight
It was a very intimate insight into how each deal worked and the daily tasks and responsibilities of each practice area. We were given the opportunity to ask questions about the personal experiences of trainees on deals and what they found exciting about them, as well as their tips on how to learn more about the practice area through the firm's news.
Culture
The culture is one of the friendliest I have seen. No question felt too absurd to ask and the graduate recruitment team were very nice and supportive, extending their support through email at any point during the scheme. The firm has an authentically diverse culture and is committed to supporting diverse staff at any level, seeing through their progression across the firm.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the soft skills developed throughout the scheme, such as confidence and communication, as it allowed me to grow as a person and connect further with my cohort. I also loved the inclusivity of the firm as I felt like I belonged there and would be well and truly supported at the firm.
Yes
Research heavily into the firm, connect with employees on LinkedIn and message them about their experiences with the firm. Gain as much knowledge as you can from the scheme, you will find it nowhere else.
