The Role
yes enjoyed it. i learnt new skills and got a better idea of the types of jobs I could get when I graduate
worked in an office, so everyone was constantly busy with their own work. But the employee's were very helpful. I was mostly analysing work, so I worked alone.
support was always givin to me. If I ever had any queries, my employer always came over straight away to help me, as did the other people working in the office.
I always had work to complete every day. The plan was firstly to do as much research as i could possibly do regarding the new email system so I was always occupied. Towards the end of the placement, things became more relaxed as the majority of work has been completed.
I was mostly working by myself; I was given a list of things to do, and a time line, but as I got into the work, I found extra things to do, which made my schedule a bit more packed. The more I worked there, the more repsonsibility I was given which included sometimes having the keys to the office during lunch. I was also told that I could take breaks as often as I needed, so had to be responsible with this.
The new skills that I aqquired will help me with my final year project, in which I can chose something similar to what I have just completed in the placement. I will be able to write my dissertation with a better knowledge about reports and handing in all work on time. The placement gave me an insight to how the 'real world' is once I have graduated. I have seen what kind of jobs come out of my degree by talking to some of the other employees as well as talking to other students that are undertaking different placements elsewhere.
The Company
Very serious. Everyone was always working, and every now and again a problem occured in the system, staff would be in and out of the office all the time.
It was organised every well. When I first got there, there was letters on my desk to say welcome to the new job, pens and papers was given to me, aswell as desk and cupbaord space.
i was a placement student, and already had previous experience in the role that they wanted me to do. The work that was given to me I already had a good knowledge on, so not much additional training was needed. This helped the managers as they didnt have to explain everything from scratch.
Subsidised Canteen
Would be interested in a job once i have graduated, but for now, i am concentrating on my studies.
The Culture
everyone was kind and helpful. they used to play football 2-3 times a week, and invited me.
town was few minutes away, so it didnt cost much
typical uni life, as i was working in the university
i always recieved emails about things to do outside work, such as tennis and football, as well as leaning tai chi.
