  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

    • My role was within the Waters lab, where I engaged in microbiological tests of water samples and sent contaminated samples for identification

    • This role allowed me to develop my microbiological skills e.g., reading agar plates and recognition of bacterial colonies as well as introducing new skills e.g., pour plates; filtration and streaking agar

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

    • Yes. I eventually was able to enter aseptic areas alone and engage in individual microbiological testing myself as well as reading plates independently

    • The team were absolutely fantastic at accommodating me as well as being supportive while I trained and asked questions about the work while I got my bearings.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

    • I have never felt so welcomed whilst starting a new job, and the culture within my team was amazing. It was a diverse and friendly team with everyone treating me as if they had known me for years.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

    • This internship has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I am so lucky to have been trained and treated as I have been. I would highly recommend working at AZ to anybody wishing to develop their scientific skills and wanting to work within a laboratory environment.

    • I would advise people to be themselves and try not to get nervous during the interview - it was an easy application process and everybody has been so welcoming. Also, ask as many questions as you wish, everybody was always very willing to answer
