  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I sat with a different team each week and carried out a range of tasks including legal research, proofreading, and drafting memos. I also attended a number of ‘focus on’ sessions to learn about the firms specialist practice areas throughout the scheme.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learned about the types of tasks trainees at Taylor Wessing do, and how these can be completed efficiently. In particular, my ability to research and draft concise summaries has improved significantly. I also developed my time management skills through having to balance work assignments with networking with other fee-earners at the company and attending workshops/ events.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great to see how everyone at Taylor Wessing gets involved in promoting the company and collaborates across different sectors of the business. Each person I spoke to had a genuine interest in explaining the work they do and impressed on us the importance of not ruling out practice areas and keeping an open mind when starting our careers.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere was extremely friendly and supportive. The open-door, non-hierarchical culture that Taylor Wessing promote was evident to see across the two weeks. Despite there being numerous different assessments it didn’t feel like we were being assessed as everyone I encountered genuinely wanted us to succeed.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Taylor Wessing. It reinforced my desire to join the firm and, through the numerous conversations with fee-earners I had during the scheme, my confidence has improved significantly. It was an invaluable experience and definitely taught me a lot about life working in a top law firm.

  • Take the time to understand the culture of the company as well as it’s sector-focused practice areas before you apply. They are unique in the amount of emphasis they place on hiring people who fit the values of the company. If you do get a place on the scheme, try and take every opportunity that comes your way and enjoy the experience!
