    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, which was at times challenging to be 'thrown in at the deep end'. However, this was good for my personal growth as the responsibilities given to me were well within my capabilities and an excellent opportunity to stretch and challenge myself. I also knew where to go to access the necessary support if I ran into any difficulties so felt supported by team members.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received support and guidance from my supervisor when needed as well as members of my team within the laboratory. I didn't have much contact with my line manager. For relocation we received support however this did not go as smoothly as expected due to permit issues and housing struggles. However within AstraZeneca we had a point of contact for these queries who regularly checked in on us and made the transition easier.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement. It was challenging and allowed me to develop many new skills within the laboratory which will be applicable when I return to university and for my future career. Team members were incredibly helpful and supportive. Furthermore I made many new friends who I never would have met otherwise which enhanced the experience of moving abroad to study for a year.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca
  • The company culture has been a great experience and I have developed a range of transferable skills and I would therefore highly encourage others to apply for a placement with AstraZeneca. The support received over the year has been great and it has been a good taste of what a future research position would entail. The interview assessment centre was smooth, a values and technical interview as well as group problem solving exercise were assessed.
