Vacation Scheme Student Review

The first few days involved a lot of online talks, whether from current trainees, different departments, or from Learning and Development. The rest of the time was spent in our chosen department, where we were given a range of different tasks to complete and attended various meetings. We were generally supervised by our trainee 'buddies', who gave us input and sometimes helped with tasks, as well as interacting with various other members of the department.

The vacation scheme helped to develop my communication skills as I was constantly meeting and talking to new people, whether they be other vacation scheme students, trainees, or other members of the Gateley team. Some of the tasks helped to strengthen my critical thinking skills as well as my ability to read very closely in order to fully understand and analyse documents.

It was very interesting to hear from all the different departments and to understand both how varied the work is and how certain teams work together. I also gained a greater understanding of how Gateley collaborates with all of its professional services platforms.

The company culture and general atmosphere were both excellent. Gateley has a very friendly culture and everybody is approachable, no matter their role. The general atmosphere was productive but equally quite relaxed. The company and staff as a whole seem very down to earth.

I've really enjoyed my experience at Gateley. I feel as though I've gained a much better insight into the kind of work commercial solicitors do and how a law firm actually functions. I've also enjoyed meeting all the members of my department, as well as the other vacation scheme students.
