Amazon Discover Review

In the Amazon Discovery Insight Programme, I had an opportunity to partake in two business challenges with other students. These were related to the topic of recycling, sustainability and gaming (Twitch). There were panels, workshops and recruitment Q&A sessions.

The business challenge allowed me to improve my problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. This is because we were provided with a problem upon which we had to come up with innovative solutions to counter it.

It was insightful to hear about all of the roles available (in particular, within the non-tech sector of Amazon). Understanding Amazon's business allowed me to be more engaged with the webinars and workshops. It also encouraged me to view Amazon's business model through a different lens, further encouraging me to apply for the upcoming mentorship programme.

Overall, Amazon's culture and general atmosphere seemed welcoming. Diversity and inclusion seems to be a big thing within the company, which further encouraged me to apply for more programmes from Amazon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight as I was able to engage with like-minded individuals and improve my communication and creative-thinking skills. In particular, the business challenge was a great way to not only find out more information about Amazon, but also to actively engage with the business. It was an engaging way to get involved.

In terms of applying to Amazon, the main advice I would give is to be ambitious. What I have learnt from this insight programme, is that I shouldn't shy away from large organisations like Amazon, but rather, to change my perspective and recognise that the scope of progression is unimaginable.
