    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I am currently working in the transport department. My role is to plan and monitor all vehicle operations. This includes tracking deliveries/collections from stores and suppliers, liaising with other depots, planning frozen out-loads and reporting KPIs to senior leadership and head office.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities from the very start. Some examples are: - Running the operation and reporting to the senior management - Ensuring the ability to achieve KPIs and the targets dictated by them - Mitigating any lost productivity or missed target - Taking an active role in disciplinary and accident investigations - Communicating with colleagues both internally and externally - Maintaining health and safety standards

  • This placement pairs you with both a placement mentor and buddy, both being experienced, high achieving Managers who are happy to support and guide you when asked. You will also receive support from within the depot, from line managers and colleagues alike.

  • Be prepared for many different challenges along the way. Managing an operation like this will definitely push you out of your comfort zone, however, once you get the hang of it, seeing the outcome of your work is extremely satisfying.
