    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Firstly, I check my e-mails and create a to-do list. A standard day will involve a few meetings, and frequent communication with people via Teams or E-mails. I normally upload documents onto a software for review from other team members, or review them myself (with secondary opinions). I create agenda's and meeting structures. I create Powerpoints to present, or lists for certain projects. I have weekly 1:1 meetings with team members.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've learned a lot of skills on Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, and Word that I previously didn't have. I've also learned how to facilitate and structure meetings, adhering to a tight schedule. Public speaking is also a key skill picked up, alongside the meeting facilitation. I've learned a lot of organizational skills i.e. how to manage time, sticking to strict deadlines.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot of responsibility, one of the first things I did was run a project (of which I cannot go into detail to). You get treated like a regular employee - not just a placement student. It can sound daunting, but it's fantastic in terms of growth, experience and opportunities. There's always something for you to be working on.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had the most amazing manager who supported me whenever I needed it, replied very quickly via Teams, and was just always there for help. I also had a team of people who I could go to. As well as that, there's a lot of connection with the other placement students so if you have any issues you can ask them for help.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Absolutely amazing, one of my favourite things about working here. Everyone is so kind, accepting, and friendly. In my year working here, I didn't have any issues with anyone. Although some people work at different speeds, styles, and paces to you, it was still easy to get along with them. They're very open to the LGBTQ+ community, too.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I loved the opportunity I was given, and would do it all over again if I could. I highly recommend this company and/or role to anyone contemplating it. I had an incredible time, met so many people, and gained so many connections I wouldn't have if I never joined.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to ViiV Healthcare
  • Never be afraid to ask for help, your team members will always be there for you. And that extends to the other placement students. Keep a written diary by your side to write notes, track your progress, and to get a general understanding of what is happening because things can move fast and there's a lot of words to learn, people to know etc.
