    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The programme was an opportunity to learn more about the different divisions within Nomura, including Investment Banking, Global Markets, Risk and Technology. Being able to network with both my peers and various professionals within the company, coupled with the informative talks about the different divisions, provided a great insight into the daily operations of both the financial services industry and Nomura as a company. Sessions such as the trading simulation and case study workshops made for an engaging opportunity to actively learn about the industry.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before this programme, I knew that I was interested in joining the Investment Banking division, but I wasn’t too sure which team within investment banking suited me the most. After hearing from representatives from the CFS group and the M&A team, I have a much clearer understanding of what I want to do in my future career! Furthermore, I really enjoyed exploring the Global Markets and Corporate Functions divisions, the several case studies and the DEI panel discussion.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great to hear from and network with a wide range of speakers and representatives from divisions across Nomura, and I now truly understand the different functions of each division and their role within Nomura! Before attending the spring week, I had an idea of what sort of roles an investment bank had, and after attending I have a much more detailed understanding of different roles such as the CFS devision in Nomura that I didn't realise other banks didn't have

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone who I networked with emphasized the really great company culture at the bank. No matter if it was front office, middle office or back office, everyone seems to get on really well with eachother and I know that it dispeled a lot of rumors about investment banking for a lot of the spring interns, it certainly did for me! The general atmosphere was excellent, the building was amazing, and the amenties that Nomura offers makes it a great place to work

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Having the chance to be immersed in talks, activities and networking sessions in the beautiful Nomura London Office was an invaluable insight into the industry, Nomura culture and each of the business areas. Experiencing the thrilling reality of Global Markets, Investment Banking and Corporate Functions firsthand has solidified my interest in this industry and I hope to see myself and my Explore Programme peers returning to Nomura down the line! Overall, I absolutely loved my experience

  • 7. Would you recommend Nomura to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura
  • I would say learn the company culture and atmosphere at the bank becuase it definitely differs to other bulge bracket banks, it being a investment boutique. Theres also the added aspect of it being a Japanese bank, so learning what makes them different to others will give you a headstart. I have learnt that case study interiviews are especially hard, so make sure to know any upcoming m&a deals and generally a good market overview
