Overview
On the vacation scheme, you will be working on tasks provided by your supervisor. However, there is also plenty of time throughout the day to go for coffees with the firm's members and everyone is very happy to provide their time. Additionally, there are presentations most days where the firm talks to you about their different departments, the different networks/initiatives within the firm, and Q&A sessions. There are also often evening events which allow attendees to network and socialise.
Skills
HSF held workshops on skills required for commercial lawyers, such as advising clients. The scheme also allowed me to develop my proofing, legal research and commercial awareness skills when completing my work.
Business Insight
The insight provided was very comprehensive and genuine. The firm gave a very candid account of what it is like to work at HSF and how that experience differs between departments.
Culture
The firm's culture was very friendly. It seems like a genuinely pleasant place to work.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the scheme very much. It was a good balance of practical work, insight events and social/networking opportunities.
Yes
Do not try to act like what you think they are looking for. The firm recruits a diverse range of individuals and there is no specific 'type' of person they are looking to recruit. If you have the right mindset and work-ethic, you will be able to do well with HSF.
