  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • You can expect to: •build data tables/views •manage existing tables/views • provide analysis using customer data to predict customers entering lifecycle stages • create predictive machine learning models • lead presentations to wider/other teams • create a range of data visualisation tools from dashboards, charts and tables • connect with managers and stakeholders to manage expectations and build strong lasting relationships • respond to emails and manage workload • complete independent learning using the free provided resources • have fun!

  • This placement taught me a wide variety of skills: Technical Skills: • SQL • Python • Alteryx • Snowflake • Confluence & Jira • D&B Market Insight • Power BI & Qlik And allowed me to develop other skills: Soft Skills: • Teamwork • Confidence (very important!) • Communication • Presenting • Problem Solving

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was treated as just another member of my team, which was daunting at first considering most of the rest of the team had PhDs! I was given as much responsibility as was decided was right in conversations with my manager and mentor and had some really important and interesting projects during my time!

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • This placement is very much tailored to the person! I was given a mentor (another member of my team) who taught me the basics of all the skills needed to succeed in my job role! I was then given as much responsibility as I wanted that allowed me to be challenged. The last 6 months of my placement, I was completely independent but always encouraged to ask for help when needed!

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Sage is a brilliant place to work. They actually care about their colleagues! Mental health, work-life balance and community engagement are incredibly important, shown through multiple provided health benefits, 5 volunteering days you are actively encouraged to use, flexible and hybrid working options and the multitude of social events held in office! My team was always there for me, as well as so many other colleagues and processes in place to support to me!

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I loved my placement and now that I’ve returned to university I really appreciate and value all that my time at Sage has taught me. I made some amazing connections, developed so many skills that my CV actually looks a little cramped and learnt some priceless important things about myself. Thank you Sage!

  • When applying to Sage, your personality and values are all that matters. Sage is more than happy to provide the learning needed for you to perform your job role, but they can’t teach you how to be the perfect person to fit in at Sage! They don’t care if you’re switching career functions or graduating, they just care that you’re passionate, positive and eager to make an impact. Let yourself shine!
