    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role essentially involved assisting the Disputes and Investigations team with several cases during my time at the firm. Some tasks involved a large-scale document review, witness statement review and ad-hoc tasks such as formulating a chronology and drafting meeting minutes.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During my internship, I was fortunate to develop several skills such as my attention to detail, communication skills and networking skills. I enhanced my attention to detail while undertaking the first-level review of a large-scale document review. In respect of my communication skills, I consistently engaged with members of the Disputes and Investigations team via various platforms such as Microsft teams and email. I was also fortunate to engage and network with members across the firm during several amazing network events such as the firm's summer party.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was thankfully given a great deal of responsibility during my internship. An example of this was when I formulated a draft chronology and translation tracker for a filing briefing. Here I populated the relevant dates and events using the factual background section within a client's statement of defence. I also monitored email exchanges with external counsel concerning received translations, updated the translation tracker into an excel spreadsheet and copied the translations into a chronological run on the team's collaborative drive.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The Disputes and Investigations team and the firm's wider network were extremely supportive. I was fortunate to have been given an array of support including an amazing manager, supervisor and designated buddies that were always at hand to assist with any queries. The firm's current trainees were also truly supportive giving tips and advice as to how to make a good impression. I was also tremendously supported by several senior members of the firm, this included senior associates and partners who regularly found time within their busy schedules to have a coffee and provide amazing feedback and advice.
