    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked in small project teams with analysts, associates and seniors, working to advise clients on potential M&A opportunities, defence considerations and refinancing proposals. I was involved in making slides to prepare pitchbooks to share with clients, updating financial charts using FactSet and CFIT, as well as Excel valuation analysis such as buy-in analysis.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have improved my Microsoft office skills in both Excel and PowerPoint, including becoming more familiar with several shortcuts. I improved interpersonal skills through working with other members of the team from analysts up to managing directors. I improved time management skills by communicating with people I am working with on my capacity, prioritising tasks suitable and working efficiently to meet deadlines.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan
  • Apply early! I would say not to worry if not from a finance background or you feel unprepared with regards to technical skills. You will not be expected to have any technical skills in the interview or when you start. It is most important to be yourself, be keen and show a desire to learn and your team will want to work with you in the future.
