    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was very varied as I did a mix of internal presentations to my team and wider team. Additionally I was able to use my excel skills in some analysis I was assigned, which I really enjoyed. As I had capacity during my work weeks, I would make the most of the internship opportunity by networking within areas I was interested in. Equally I would network to understand different business functions better and thus I met a variety of people. Overall I really enjoyed the internship!

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I would say I have learnt a lot from the internship and developed many skills. Starting with Excel, I was able to build on previous skills and apply my knowledge to specific tasks assigned which I really enjoyed. Some tasks may be challenging but for myself I was able to develop on my confidence and presenting abilities. Both of which I think I struggled with before this internship, so I feel I have definitely progressed and come out of my comfort zone because of this internship.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I would say definitely. I think if you ask for more work you're given it and I really appreciate that, as I enjoy keeping busy. Even when I didn't have too much work responsibility I still got involved in other things such as virtual volunteering. In my opinion the internship provides you with everything you need and its what you do with your time that makes your experience special. So, if you put commitment into achieving a specific goal you can definitely reach it.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager was super supportive and guided me a lot in the internship. Equally the network I developed with the other Payments interns was really good as we all helped each other out. As an intern you are also given a Mentor and a Buddy, both of which I found very useful. This is because they have normally gone through the same processes as you- starting out in the bank as an intern for example.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • JP Morgan has a very 'Helpful' orientated company culture. Everyone's always so happy to help and guide you as well as provide insights into their roles. Regardless of how senior someone is I have found people always try to make time for you at least. I have felt very supported by my network and peers. Even when networking with wider teams I felt the same way as everyone is so open to answering questions and giving you the best insight and advice which I really appreciated.

  • Be confident when applying. The first step typically is an online application and a hire vue. Make sure you are prepared for the hire vue, practise interview questions and showcase your skills and interest. Once you come to the AC, again be confident and show your interest within the interviews and why you want the role. JP Morgan applications are hugely competitive, so try to stand out and showcase your skills and knowledge as best as you can.
