    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I interned in the engineering department. My role involved creating dashboards used by other teams. I used python majorly for my project. It involved analyzing data, deriving insights, and displaying all that on the dashboard to help stakeholder be able to make decisions. I was required to communicate with the stakeholder/users of the dashboards to ensure it met their needs and receive feedback for any followups. I was not required to interact externally with any stakeholder.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely learnt alot of new skills (soft skills, technical and professional skills) On the technical side, my Python programming skills has improved, problem solving and analytical thinking skills as well. I was able to also take courses on Pluralsight and Coursera (offered freely by Goldman Sachs). On soft skills, I was able to learn effective networking, communication skills and be assertive. Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given quite alot of responsibilities during my internship. The project I worked on was a live project and I was allowed to drive the project fully. Ofcourse I did receive help from my buddy and manager when needed but generally, I was able to lead it. I was able to reach out to the stakeholders and ask them questions about the project as needed. For tasks, after critical thinking, I usually present my ideas for next steps to either my manager or buddy and most times, it was correct.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received quite alot of support from my manager, buddy and team mates. I usually reach out to them whenever I have been stuck on an issue for a few hours. Then I go to them with proposed solutions to make them aware I've taken the time out to try and figure things out myself. I did manage to also get support from other employees not on my team, especially my buddies from the inclusion networks.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at Goldman Sachs is simply amazing. For such a big company, one would expect it not to care for its employees. Diversity at GS is held in such high regard and it is simply amazing. The company-wide events such as the networking events were great. Senior leaders in the company took time out to speak with us interns and tell us about their experiences. The social activities were properly spread out and I particularly totally enjoyed the games night, picnic and morning breakfast the most.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Goldman Sachs Group
  • Interview process: for this, I would say learn your Data Structures and Algorithms and then practice using Hackerrank challenges. Ensure your CV is well written as well as your linkedin profile. Practice online video interviews on pramp.com . Preparing for day one: if coming into London, try and be here a few days (maybe 2) before the internship starts. If possible, visit the office before hand to be sure you can find your way. What would you tell yourself if you reapplied? - Don't be shy, and feel free to network with fellow interns on the first day. Goldman Sachs is a wonderful place to work at, with the good visions, company culture and benefits
