Overview
The vacation scheme began with a 2-day induction to Clyde & Co which comprised of talks by partners, associates and trainees, on subjects such as D&I, pro bono and specific practice areas. I spent the remainder of the scheme in my department where my supervisor assigned me a range of interesting tasks. Throughout the vacation scheme there was many opportunities to network with employees of the firm and other vac schemers.
Skills
During the vacation scheme I learnt how the law is practically applied in order to fulfil a client’s needs which involved approaching tasks from a commercial perspective. Furthermore, I gained an understanding of the importance of organisation and communication in order to complete work before a deadline. Therefore, I learnt how to prioritise tasks, manage the expectations of others and improve my time management.
Business Insight
The 2-day induction provided many workshops/sessions on Clyde & Co. Each session ended with a Q & A which allowed us to clarify any questions. In particular, graduate recruitment hosted a session which outlined the structure of a Training Contact at Clyde & Co, including the vast opportunities available to Trainees at the firm.
Culture
As a Vacation Schemer entering a law firm can be extremely daunting, however all employees at Clyde & Co were extremely warm and welcoming. I felt that the firm took a collaborative approach which created a thriving working environment. Clyde & Co are also very accepting and respectful towards people from a diverse background.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation scheme experience at Clyde & Co . Whilst I was initially quite nervous, the Early Careers Team were extremely supportive and provided a fantastic 2-day induction. Having a supervisor and 2 buddies during the scheme was invaluable as I was able to clarify any questions and maximise my knowledge of the firm as they were each from different practice areas/departments.
