  • - Attending really interesting and inspiring talks about the firm's core practice areas, sectors of growth, the firm's social networks/diversity & inclusion initiatives, the firm's values and future outlook/strategy - Developing important legal and business skills through completing group tasks - Preparation for group presentations - Working on live deals with trainees, associates and partners - Sitting in client calls - Socialising and networking with lawyers, the graduate recruitment team and students on the scheme

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was really interesting learning about areas of the business I didn't initially know much about (e.g. we had a fascinating talk from the Life Sciences practice). We also networked with industry specialists, learning about all kinds of practice areas from renewable energy to tech M&A and IP litigation. The graduate recruitment team were always available to answer our questions about the training contract, pro bono work, social networks etc.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • - Inclusive, diverse, innovative and forward-thinking - We were introduced to many of the social networks including the Gender Equality Network, A&Out, Race & Ethnicity Network etc. - We learnt about the sports clubs available to all employees and the many local community/pro bono initiatives

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It exceeded my expectations. The company culture was really positive, dynamic and inclusive. Everyone was very welcoming and the work was stimulating and challenging.

  • - Attend as many A&O events in advance as you can to really get an insight into the firm, the culture, the work and what differentiates A&O from other international law firms - Tailor your application to the firm, be yourself and highlight your interests/what makes you unique
