    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was placed into two practice areas where I would complete tasks for other members of the team such as researching new development or drafting emails/letters. The cohort also had scheduled networking sessions and 'focus on' sessions where we got to hear from every department in the firm about what they do.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed the legal research skills I gained through studying a law degree, and I have also learned a new skill in drafting, as I had not worked in a law firm before so this was not something I had done previously.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great to hear from every team at the firm to get an insight into the opportunities available during a training contract and the different types of work that go on within each department. It was also nice to hear from people at all levels from trainee to partner and gain an insight into the different tasks and responsibilities that differ between levels at the firm.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was really friendly, most people you contact are willing to take time out of their day to speak with you and talk about what they do, even the partners who are always busy. The firm really felt like it had an open-door policy and everyone could talk to everyone - there were no hierarchical limits.

  • I have really enjoyed the placement, I've been given interesting work and talked to a variety of different people, and it has really felt like I was part of the team and not just a spare part. The people here are lovely, the scheme was well organised, and I would highly recommend to anyone to apply.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Taylor Wessing
  • It sounds cliche but be yourself - the firm is not looking for a certain kind of person and they want a diverse range of people on their scheme. Make sure the application form is tailored to the firm so they know you're passionate about them, and then let that passion shine through at the assessment centre.
