    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In a nutshell, you are a helping hand and day to day, you will be filtering through retailer websites and social media, managing any community response. Social will have a big part to play in your everyday from reviewing assets and proofreading copy, executing monthly social reports, pulling in organic and paid metrics and coordinating promotional plans to support sales. On a wider scale, also support on PR related tasks and complete market analysis.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I believe my interpersonal and communication skills have evolved massively. Being articulate is a central part of the role when localising copy and networking with peers. I have developed my cognitive skills by keeping a close eye to detail when completing sale reports and price matrixes. This required to use numerical reasoning and ensure information is checked effectively.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A really cool aspect of the role is being able to have a lot of autonomy with social media where I have developed my self-management skills. I would design creatives for any peak promotions, coming up with the concept of the creative, from background, text, product placement etc. Aside from this, you are given a lot of responsibility with sample requests from filling out the form, getting approval and arranging delivery.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There has been constant support from my line manager and colleague and wider team. When I started, I was taken through a week training with a full integration plan where I shadowed the previous intern day to day. I felt at ease from the start having 1:1 with each member of the team and a work dinner the first week that I started. I have always felt like I can ask for help.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture was welcoming from the get go. For the most of my placement, we'd have weekly marketing calls and we have now started going into the office where it's been great to get see my team face to face. I'd say the company dynamic is friendly and relaxed which overall makes us more productive.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I was able to dabble in areas I didn't think I would; Retail Marketing and Sales. There were more tedious bits which I didn't enjoy so much but this helped to pinpoint what I want career wise. The working from home had its pros and cons, I was able to manage my time effectively and going to the office meant I had that work to personal life balance.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to TCL Europe
  • Be ready to get lots thrown at you and take on plenty of responsibility. Jump on as many calls and opportunities as possible so you can take the most out of it. The workload will be a juggling act at first but you will get used to it and don't suffer in silence, the team are super helpful! You have a huge part to play in the team, more than you realise.
