    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight week was a 4 day program from approximately 9 to 6 every day. It involved various networking opportunities, Hackerrank workshops, and workshops and talks on company culture etc. It was a face-to-face program. There are other participants from other divisions as well. For the engineering division, there was also a project during the course of the program, including a presentation. It was a fun and enriching experience, and I made many friends there.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I definitely developed my communication skills, due to the various networking opportunities (with current employees and fellow colleagues), as well as the presentation and project we had to work on. I also developed time management and collaboration skills, since we had to be able to submit the project at the end of the week while still participating in many events. I also learned more about the process of coming up with technical products. I also practised Hackerrank questions.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • There were many opportunities to learn more about other roles available. We could talk to our assigned buddies who were current employees. There were also talks about how different divisions in the company come together at the start of the insight week. Additionally, there were also talks about other aspects of the company, such as different roles within the division. We could also interact with fellow colleagues in other divisions and learn more about what they do.

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture felt great, and everyone seemed really nice and friendly. I really enjoyed working in my group with my fellow colleagues, and everyone seemed to fit well together. Current employees and recruiters were also very willing to answer any questions you had and tried to make you feel welcome. I could definitely feel like the company wanted us to enjoy and learn more during the spring week. I would say that the atmosphere was great.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed it quite a lot. I really liked the networking sessions, and am very grateful to be assigned a wonderful group. The programs were also very interesting to me, and time seemed to pass very fast. The fact that it was face-to-face also made it really enjoyable. I would like it even more if the project was more technical to better mimic day to day job scopes of engineers. But other than that, it was almost perfect.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Goldman Sachs Group
  • Go ahead and apply. I thought I wouldn't get in and thought that my interview would fail miserably. But just give it a chance and you may get in! Research more about the company and the division you are applying to. You can also try to reach out to past interns and find out more about the process. But overall, the application process is not complicated and is quite straightforward, so just give it a try.
