    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • - joining internal/external calls, - working on the project based on market compensation rules, -helping my team in their daily tasks using internal programs/websites

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I undoubtedly enhanced hard skills including using Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint etc as well as different internal programs. As my team highly encouraged me to integrate with their daily tasks, I learnt a lot about the corporate actions and how the global market operates in the broader frame. Due to the challenges I was put into, I also developed many soft skills such as team-working, problem solving and communication skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was introduced on majority of the issues that my team deals with in their daily tasks. I was responsible for matching payments, replying to our clients using information found by me or provided by my team. I really felt like I was given a lot of responsibility, although I could always rely on my colleague's help. Overall, it was a great learning environment.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I stayed in touch with my buddy as well as my manager on daily basis. I could always reach out not only to them, but also to other team-members and ask them any questions I had. Everyone was happy to schedule a meeting to explain various things, although they were really busy. I can truly say that the support and guidance I received during this internship was invaluable and I couldn't imagine it being better.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere was great. Everyone across the division was really supportive and ready to answer any questions. I really enjoyed having morning huddles with my team, where everyone could make any announcements, say how they feel etc. From time to time, we were organising lunches together, or any other social events outside of the firm. The great part was also table tennis competitions for the members of the whole firm.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Goldman Sachs Group
  • I believe this company provides everything you can expect from the summer placement. My advice for future interns is to always be open to any opportunities that come across, meet as many people as possible, not only from the same team or division, but from the whole firm. Last but not least, don't worry about your skills or knowledge, as you will receive training and support on daily basis, just ask questions.
